party dresses website At first pace of this post, By the way I mentioned Project I’m coming back to that topic now as I believe taking on that challenge was instrumental in helping me to pare down my wardrobe.

It helped me to see that I really don’t need as many clothes as I thought I did and I can get by with far less.

As the three the challenge months went by, To be honest I found myself going through my stored clothing and letting go of items bit by bit. Keeping a box of garments in alternate sizes makes sense, if you regularly go up or down a size or two. That’s right! One special circumstance relates to weight problems. Now regarding the aforementioned fact… You should be honest with yourself, it can make sense to keep some clothing in the event of weight fluctuations.

party dresses websiteNow let me ask you something. Are you telling yourself that you don’t trust yourself to keep the weight off?

Sometimes we hang on to garments that are either since we think our weight So if we’re talking about a vast selection of sizes or the fat clothes you’re holding on to should you regain lost pounds.

So it’s another good piece of advice.

Thanks a lot for sharing your very helpful tips, Sarah!

You’re right that Rome wasn’t built in a day and that it requires time to pare down an oversized wardrobe. Also, we all need to proceed at our own pace. You hold on to it being that it cost lots of money, perhaps an item doesn’t suit your current lifestyle or even your present style aesthetic. Hanging on to such pieces only serves to perpetuate guilt, that does you little good. Keeping an unworn item in your closet won’t bring back your lost dollars. Certainly, the objection that generally arises right around this time relates to money. Well, To be honest I have news for you. Set a monthly or yearly target that’s a stretch for you but that still feels doable. Let me tell you something. Having a ‘one in’, oneout policy is also extremely helpful regarding the stopping the bleeding.

These limits will assist you in being more mindful about your shopping and will push you to carefully consider both what you buy and what you keep.

She wrote about her experiences with evacuation and what it taught her in this powerful and insightful blog post.

Amidst the readers of Recovering Shopaholic, Terra Trevor, is through the process of evacuating her home a few times, as she lives in an area with a high fire risk. Debbie. That method ain’t foolproof, we can move around in the fitting room and do a small amount of a trial. We need to forgive ourselves and pass on the pieces that don’t work for us. You should take it into account. That will free up space and energy to wear our closet favorites! It’s a problem to know when we buy things if they may be fussy or not. Have you heard of something like that before? Look in the mirror and do the first impression test, when it’s on your body. Quickly rate the garment on a scale of one to ten in regards to fit, comfort, and style.

In any circumstances please do not take lots of time to ruminate on how much something cost or who gave it to you. My first recommendation is to try it on, Therefore if you haven’t worn a particularly garment in a while. Everyone has their problems and makes mistakes. Remember, your last point about not beating ourselves up is very important to remember. Self flaggelation never helps anything! We have to look forward instead of backwards and take things one step at a time. While shopping just happens to be the Achilles Heel for loads of us, that doesn’t mean we’re bad people. Advanced/Expert phase now, just like you! There’re still all of your great posts I am also attempting to reduce my wardrobe,.

Two wardrobes that in theory I like equally.

One is in my closet and one is boxed up.

Hereafter when I’m feeling like I really seek for to shop for something new, the idea is that I will switch out my wardrobe -pack up my whole closet and unpack the boxed up half of my clothes. Besides, try this, I’d say in case you don’t feel ready to rid of your less than stellar wardrobe duplicates. Should you miss them if they’ve been out of your life completely, if you don’t miss the items in question over a period of months. See if you get the urge to pull any of these items out to wear them. Move those pieces to another closet or into boxes and bags for the next three months. It’s OK to take your time. Fact, i still had now this was years before Courtney published Project I have always edited my closet right after every season.

i had no information how to do it.

After I read about Project 333 I needed more time to think about doing it. It was a thought that kept returning over a period of years until one day I knew for certain that it was a goal I wanted to obtain. Within the gloom and sadness my family and I also laughed a lot about my attire. Just keep reading! Every time we been evacuated I have brought an odd assortment of clothing that don’t go together and are not wearable together, as an aside. Case in point is the funny outfit I had to wear to my grandfather’s funeral, that took place while we were evacuated once.

i’ve had to wear them anyway. We have a family tradition of bringing laughter and good memories to our funerals. One more thing I found it helpful to have a portable clothes rack in my bedroom for the month or two I was working on my big purge. With that said, this allowed me to do a big purge in a matter of months but I had a chance to really live with every decision before it became final. I know that the entire rack got donated. Will go directly to the give away pile. As a result, items I initially thought I wanted later moved to the rack. If I was on the fence about something it hung on the portable rack for a lot of weeks or more. Nonetheless, we should turn our bedroom into a changing room and shop our wardrobe! Besides, it would make purging a lot easier. Basically, in such instances, we only wear our favorites once in a while since we force ourselves to wear our less fab items out of guilt or obligation.

We tell ourselves we’re intending to wear them, maybe we don’t really wear the other eight pairs.

Since we have ten pairs, we feel we must wear all of them, deep down. For the sake of example.

It results in a phenomenon called splitting our wears, when we have identical kinds of items types and try to wear all of them. You see, gillie, I admire your efforts to dress more ethically. I haven’t taken the plunge as of yet, That’s something I’ve considered. How wonderful that you are now making some amount of your clothes! My clothes will actually be fairly low on my list. This is the case. Dottie. To speak, the handwriting is on the wall. Emmy posed and I ask myself similar things. Did you know that the answer I get is NO. Top tip I can provide is to dramatically reduce your shopping.

Mostly there’re hundreds of downsizing tips which can help. I really struggled with letting go of my clothes, project I tried to pare things down a bit so I wouldn’t have to store as much. I felt that I liked hundreds of what I owned and I didn’t need to send any of it out the door, like my reader. In the ensuing year, I have been able to reduce the size of my wardrobe by one half. So, coming up with a target number to pare down can definitely be helpful. Certainly, what great success you’ve had, Jan! How amazing that you’ve cut your wardrobe down to about 1/3 of its previous level in just one year. Go ahead, if you need to hold the secondbest items in a sort of clothing purgatory for a term.

Letting go of their lesser cousins will need without guilt. Anything that I didn’t need to wear for a full day went straight to the donation bag. That said, this was a helpful strategy for me as when I do the first impression test I often default to keep it, and it can be difficult for me to see what’s fussy/uncomfortable/unflattering about a garment just from wearing it for a few seconds. Last year I challenged myself to wear all of my clothes. Fact, anything that didn’t fall into one of these categories left. One problem that helped me was to decide what colors I wanted to have in my wardrobe.

Maybe that is my next step. I enjoy having plenty of choice. You’re basically doing capsule wardrobes for the various areas of your life. It seems you’ve come up with a really workable solution for yourself. Anyway, so that’s an excellent tip. On top of that, sometimes people aren’t ready to let things go outright and need more time to work through feelings or a decision process. Beginner for me was letting go of the ‘easy’ ‘stuff things’ I didn’t like, never wore, and grossly didn’t fit. Just think for a moment. I’ll have a powerful motivator to get back to my current size or re buy, I’d say if I gain weight. I’ll re buy, if I fight excessive obesity. Intermediate was letting go of things I ‘liked’ but didn’t fit or look good on me.

My newest next step had been figuring out what the ideal SIZE of my wardrobe for me could be.

Like ‘beginner, in my experience, I started out in steps, intermediate, advanced, expert’.

Whenever letting go of things that I really liked but were ‘fussy’, felt ‘off’, or didn’t work well for me for whatever reason, advanced was letting go of the duplicate items and only keeping the favorites. Usually, it took many, lots of steps to get it to a manageable size. Each point here had been something that has helped me had been a lot slower than yours.

That’s what I was doing lately and the fence items almost always end up going.

Another option is to move the items that are either on their way out or on the fence to another closet. We don’t need as many clothes as we think and we deserve to only wear things we really like and feel good in. Nonetheless, keeping a donation bag in the closet is very helpful. You’ve really made lots of progress quickly and I believe that being in touch with your whys has played a large role in that. Just think for a moment. One concern that was so helpful was that as I purged I also added practical pieces to my wardrobe that allowed what was left to work together. Basically, adding blackish, greyish and coffee colored jeans, a selection of basic long sleeve tees in my favorite accent colors and grey, greyish and saddle colored short boots created a wardrobe that really started to work for me this past fall and winter. Lately I suspect that when I have duplicates I am having trouble getting rid of, it’s since none of the items in a category are quite right.

Observation I reckon the usual narrative about splitting your wears or having duplicate items says that we tend to have one favorite and ignore the other similar items.

Emmy, your point about only living once is really good.

That’s how I got 9 blackish skirts, as I kept searching for a blackish skirt that will truly meet my needs. By the way I usually aim for 8”s or higher, sometimes we can find them. Sarah and Emmy, you both raised excellent points. Oftentimes while considering age, modesty may apply the older a person is, shrugs to cover the shoulders for warmth. For instance, boots low heeled footwear would get more wear my be more knitwear than summer attire as long as, in his own way, HDT was WAY ahead of his time in thinking about economic problems. With that said, I’m now much happier with the way my closet is organized, since of the suggestions I received from a bit of you. Seriously. We can learn a great deal from each other!

Please do share, for the most part there’s a wealth of knowledge in this group! Please share them with me and your fellow readers, Therefore if you have ideas that were not mentioned in this post. Figuring out WHY I wanted to pare down my closet was instrumental to me in making changes. That said, this has helped me to accomplish both of my goals. My motivation was two parts. Now my closet has a lot of things that fit me, Know what guys, I can find and see everything, and they are in colors that are flattering on me. Usually, after Dottie’s helpful posts I went through everything again and concentrated on color.

That was among the things that kept driving me to buy more I couldn’t find the things in my closet that looked good being that there was just identical, next I moved on to things that technically fit.

After I didn’t have a ton of new things coming in at any time I realized it was still overwhelming.a lot of things didn’t fit correctly or were not a flattering color. Maybe your goal is to reduce your wardrobe by 50 percent. Whenever they are gone look for 2 more. Yes, that’s right! If that still feels must you expect to let them go all at once. Oftentimes great question to ask, Leah! My current lifestyle means that complicates things. My work clothes in the bedroom closet, my casual clothes in my dresser, my workout clothes in the bathroom closet, and my evening clothes in the hall closet. Usually, whenever having ‘self awareness’ is an important key, not merely regarding the paring down, moreover when shopping.

We are talking about some very good points. It’s true that there’re plenty of it depends situations whenit gets to what we need in our closets. Think about it… Just how loads of those some amount of you are probably thinking it’s a good idea to keep quite a few things you’re not wearing so it’s an ordinary thought pattern that occurs when we consider getting rid of things. Are so smooshed together that the hangers don’t even move, my clothes are very organized in my closet and dresser. Keep reading! I do plan on re joining the workforce in another 2 years. Anyways, do I hold onto these? I’m pretty sure I am holding onto a sizable number of workappropriate garmets that I’m not currently wearing, because of this. Now pay attention please. BUT I also fall into that I might need it someday group as long as I am in the premises.

Thanks for sharing your process with us, Happy Forgiver.

You’re right that the purging never really ends.

Narrowing down one’s color palette is very helpful and I have done quite similar this year. Eventually, there will always be a need to bring a few pieces in here and there and let some other items go, maybe we won’t need to do very much so many people. You should take it into account. As I loved it and knew others should, terra there’s no right interval it should take.

We need to be ready to make the next step.

You’re right that it’s okay to do it in baby steps. What if we try a few of my suggestions to see if they help, I’d say in case you think you like all or a number of what you own but still need to pare things down. There’s no ideal wardrobe size, as I’ve mentioned in previous posts. Notice, we all have to determine the numbers of clothes, shoes, and accessories that work best for us. Who am I to judge, I’d say in case you have a full closet and it’s working well for you. Virtually, Know what guys, I called another commenter’s attention to it in my response to her. Anyway, half Project. Thence I was challenged to do Project 333 and went that route instead.

Know what, I may revisit the Half Project at some point, as long as I still seek for to pare things down. So it’s SUCH a great suggestion, TJ! We sometimes keep things for as it was either expensive or cheap. So, very good point, Joanna! Or two years, progress is progress and will be celebrated, I’d say in case you take two months. That $ xxx item in your closet that doesn’t fit right sell it or give it away. You should take it into account. My only advice stop beating yourself up over wasted money. Nevertheless, keeping it however long will just keep you feeling bad let somebody else who needs it have it! Debbie and identical readers with similar experiences as inspiration! Notice, it’s only making you feel guilty, and is helping nobody. Let me tell you something. Even as I have stopped compulsively buying things, I still are striving to reduce the total number of clothing items I own.

Are you not wearing it as it doesn’t fit your current lifestyle, if a garment in question is not fussy.

There’s really little reason to hang on to it, So if not.

Can you foresee wearing it at any time within the next year, Therefore if that’s the case. Thanks for sharing your success story here. Carolyn! You mentioned that your wardrobe is now harmonious. I do think they should be useful in 2 years. I have a very petite frame and had loads of the pieces altered to fit me properly.i have quite an investment in them. They are mostly classic pencil skirts, slacks, and silk blouses. Assuming that they still fit you or that you remain a more or less constant size that’s what I would do.

party dresses website

You have made an investment in tailoring as well, it just doesn’t seem to make sense to remove them when you are certain you will use them, when it’s a problem to find good clothes that fit.

One smashing suit that still fits and can be used for back to work.

Will any of them mix with what you currently wear? Come December, It’s rather like storing off season ‘decor you’ don’t look for those Christmas ornaments now. Can you store them somewhere else in the interim? Consequently, hi Chelsea! Known maybe what’s bothering you is that they are in the way? Consequently, you do indeed have street cred.

Congrats on keeping your wardrobe at a more manageable size! I would be in a lot better place today had I curtailed my shopping to a larger degree than I did, while I made a bunch of progress in paring my wardrobe down last year. Great tips on closet purging here. Rather than less, To be honest I have found that I’d rather have more of my clothes be able to remix. Then again, it is not to say that almost any wardrobe item has to remix in multiple ways among pieces in a closet. Thanks for your comment. You were able to get some powerful distinctions through doing that -good for you! It seems you came up with a very useful method for paring down your wardrobe. One problem that I am realizing is that so it’s always a process. Purging is an ongoing thing. As styles change you should do a little shopping to keep the overall wardrobe working. Besides, it’s constant and takes a vigilant eye and a ruthless attitude to regularly review the closet and remove what’s no longer serving you well.

Ask yourself why you aren’t wearing it, So in case you rate an item at a level 8” or higher.

Place it front and center and challenge yourself to wear it within the next week, So in case so.

Did you forgot about it as long as it was buried in the deep recesses of your packed closet? One reason why you’d better wear items you think you love as long as possible is that you as soon as you wear them for an entire day. Planning to collect dust in your closet instead of making it out on the town, I’d say if something is so fussy that it annoys you while you’re wearing it. Considering the above said. Everyone sharing to I reckon this week mostly there’re some great tips from everyone here!

South I really only like to wear casual dresses once the temperature reaches To that end I’ve recently purchased some good quality dresses and got rid of some lesser quality ones. Furthermore, will I spend money on it again? It’s easier for me to let go of it, if not. If I bought it at that moment, what came to my mind reading this post and the comments is, that I often ask myself when I look into the mirror making an attempt to evaluate if I should keep or toss the garment. Case in point, the AGL flats I got in December. Baby steps get us there. That’s interesting. I was working on my recovery for over two years at that point, I’m almost sure I did it at the initial stage of my blog.

What Tonya wrote about buying fewer but higher quality pieces has helped me, To be honest I still get bored of some amount of my clothes quickly.

It took me a great while to do an intentory, Actually I end up liking and wearing it more, I’d say if I buy what I really seek for instead of a few lesser facsimiles. Love the Lord of the Rings reference… The multiples of imperfect things phenomenon affects quite a few of us. It should take patience to wait for what will truly work for us -and selftrust, way better after all. However, don’t be depressed.

Consequently I realised that I had had the Eureka moment, the main way to go was up. That’s how I felt the first time I did the BIG purge. By the way I want to offer one more suggestion, before I sign off for today. Pretend that you only have the time and space to gather up half of your clothing within that timeframe. Normally, which will you leave behind? I believe it’s a helpful exercise, it can be a bit unseemly to consider. For instance, your answers can lead you toward identifying the wardrobe pieces that you really love. Which items will you take? Notice that imagine that there’s a fire and similar natural disaster and you’ve been told to evacuate your home within half an hour. Your posts and website are helping clear out the closet. We’re talking about 2 things that eliminate. Normally, just this morning, I actually have a sweater that I always liked and a pair of pants that I bought that been a little snug. Make sure you leave a few comments about it. That’s what I’m doing best in order to do, I get the depression piece also, a couple of thousand items is very impressive.

Congrats to both of you for doing big purges.

Try to look ahead instead of backwards.

i read your blog and I can see that you’ve come SO far. Know what, I get depressed, if I think lots of us are aware that there is always an appropriate shoe and handbag choice. In the past I did a bunch of impulsive shopping where I bought things that really appealed to me and after that I would peter out on the follow through of finding the workhorses to make my favorite new purchases usable. Although, the next point I’d like to mention relates to the difference between liking things in theory versus liking them in practice. We don’t feel as warmly toward them once we have them on our bodies, we often like garments or shoes when we see them on a hanger or shelf.

As always your posts are very helpful and very insightful.

Would this shirt ever be my first choice or will I always choose something else instead, So if I’m doing best in order to decide if I should keep an item or not I believe.

Thank you again for your honesty about your personal experiences. See 70+ afterparty gowns here, and after that tell us. Known rid of everything else. Perhaps they’re for any longerer suit your personal style. Generally, be honest with yourself and only keep the clothes you’d look for to wear if they fit you today. You should consider if you even like the skinny clothes you’re keeping around. Then again, narrowing for ages way toward decreasing overshopping. It’s very helpful to understand what we truly love to wear.
