August 5th, 2016 by admin under short white cocktail dress

short white cocktail dressYou can see my dress with the horsehair braid hem here.

The horsehair is trapped upright between the skirt and ‘liningno’ pstitching required, when you turn it all right side out. That said, gorgeous and easya ‘one seam’ hem for a lined and stabilized hem, It’s kind of a brain tangler. Soclosest to your feeddogs is your wrong side fashion fabric, then lining, then horsehair braid on top.

ALL the ‘time it”s one of my favorite ys!

short white cocktail dressIt makes a full skirt really stand out. Thanks for the reminder. Can’t wait to see the finished dress! Notice that snow White costume I made for one of my daughters several years ago.

Enjay, I don’t think it matters if the cord comes out since the horsehair is pstitched in place. Now let me ask you something. Does that make sense?

Great tutorial, very easy to follow.

This blog is one of a few documented I have ever seen! Thank you very much for taking the time to create it.

Thanks for visit my blogsHello there, just become alert to your weblog through Google, and located that it is truly informative. You think this would work on tulle underskirt, right? Do I just need to make the underskirt super for awhile under a circle skirt made of cotton bottomweight. Normally, it’s a costume.

Thank you for another wonderful tutorial.

Thanks for the tutorial. You have certainly made me want that book, not sure when I’ll ever have an occasion for horsehair braid. I am eager to see your dress. It was a relief to learn that it is made from nylon now.

Horsehair braid is like magic, right?

It adds fullness and just enough weight to make a formal look really stunning, They’re definitely more of an application for a floor length dress. Anyway, effect Think horsehair braid could add to a swing coat. Now regarding the aforementioned for ages because it’s more practical than putting an entire lining in, your tip about facing with bias tape to cover up the scratchy surface is genius. Be sure to look at padded hems too, if you love this technique. Fun to apply engineering wise.

Thank you a lot for the tutorial. Love the tutorial. Aren’t we all going for maximum breeziness, really? Now regarding the aforementioned fact. How are you going to ensure that the cord at the p doesn’t pull out after you cut off the loops, if you don’t mind my asking. My grandmother had some couture clothing and it’s so interesting to see the why’s of loads of the structure engineered into such garments.

Gertie, that does make sense.

Alright already. Therefore, thank you Gertie from Brooklyn, you always do such a wonderful job and I appreciate your sharing your projects, musings, and knowledge. That is interesting right? That’s right. Much so, that you might say that my dear husband may actually be a bit weary of hearing about Gertie from Brooklyn already. Almost any time I search for a sewing, term, review, opinion, technique, guess who comes up, sorry to ramble. You should take it into account. You’re swell! You’re smart, funny and beautiful.

Laundering horsehair braid isn’tis not a huge poser.

Well SHUT UP! Nevertheless, you’ve taught me something again. It’s the clothing fabric that really determines the wash method. IF you machine was on your delicate/handwash cycle. AND after sewing my first 1947 repro pattern, I wished I had it for the skirt hem. Oftentimes nO ONE ever bought any.

Gertie I want to use horsehair braid for a ballroom bottom dress but I want very accenuated ruffles. In fact you’ve got me thinking now of all sorts of projects to use it for! There going to be absolutely lots of meterage and I have both a serger and sewing machine. Is it best to use a narrow braid and what is the best way to apply it. Thanks for the tip Gertie as well as the great tute, feel reassured to hear its worked on a similar skirt too.

That is the most awesome and wonderful thing in awesome history and wonderful things!

You’re blowing my mind, Gertie! Usually, look at how awesome and wonderful your hem looks! Anyway, this is fantastic I had read about horsehair braid but never seen it in person or in action. Consequently, thanks for the very clear pictures and instructions!

Golly, I don’t know anything about sewing but this is just fascinating. I can’t wait until one day I can do something like this, at the moment I’m still working on stitching in a straight line.
