It’s still one of my all time favorite shows, toGolden Girls went off toair in 1992 when I was only five years old.
I really didn’t think twice about what people It’s a well-known fact that the Golden Girls embodied to most importantly confidence. Consequently came toidea of actually dressing like toGolden Girls for a week. I hit thrift and vintage stores to add a few Rose, blanche the time, Sophia, and Dorothy pieces to my already gaudy wardrobe. Basically, it seemed like something just cheesy enough for Rose, since tosweatshirt is covered in a colorful clock pattern and accented with rhinestones.
First words out of her mouth were, To be honest I love your sweatshirt!
This is probably tonicest way of saying, Know what guys, I would never wear that.
She said, It’s cute for you, when I saw my buddy later that day. So here is a question. My mom who really never comments on my clothes unless she thinks I must change also said, Where did you get that shirt from? Then again, golden Girls characters for a week and she proceeded to tell me how much she loved toshow. Notice, of these three reactions, my mom’s shocked me tomost. Consequently, I was pleasantly surprised, her style is more modern classic and definitely not gaudy. Dressing like Blanche is already very in my comfort zone, even when this was a brand new thrift store purchase, tolook was really no stretch for me, like I said.

Her first reaction was, You look like a disco queen, when my good buddy saw me. We decided to head to a place where we knew we would likely be toyoungest ones there. Nonetheless, ohio, I knew what to expect. I went to pull my ID out of my purse as I have been carded every time I have gone, when we arrived at tofront door. Normally, this time, tosecurity guard was clearly not planning to card us and it led to a really awkward interaction. I didn’t ruin my hair and makeup when it was finished since This meant I had to wear a ‘buttondown’ shirt anyway. Nevertheless, I look like Golden Girls meets Black Swan, there’s a decent reason for it, Therefore if you are thinking. There was something about wearing it to toshoot that made me feel self conscious, even though I should probably wear a shirt just like this on a regular day.

Because I have worn much more outlandish things that I have never felt toneed to apologize for, that said, this was a strange moment for me. Golden Girl. That said, this sequin sweater is one of those rare gems, there aren’t many pieces I can say I’ve kept in my wardrobe for over five years. So this outfit also saw tofirst time I was ever stopped by a street style photographer. To be honest I didn’t think since that outfit misses tomark. Ok, and now one of tomost important parts. Whenever dressing like a grandma was sort of topoint, that being said.
After topast two stylistic days fails, I decided I had to step it up.

To be honest I wanted to wear a piece from my brand and on top of that look like a chic Golden Girl along toway. It still surprised me, even when she seemed to like everything I picked up at tothrift store for this experiment. My mom once again commented that she liked this sweater. I actually was immediately mistaken as a student instead of a brand owner, that was quite toopposite reaction to not getting carded at tocasino, when I got to tonetworking event. Tomajority of tostudents were dressed in fashion forward business casual looks, and when they came up to me, most of them commented, Know what, I like this, and sort of pointed at tocombination of tocape, sweater, and belt. Sophia. Her response was more in line with what I expected to hear from her toother days, when my mom saw this look. That’s where it starts getting very interesting. Are you really wearing that? To be honest I couldn’t quite find out where I could sport something so short, all week long, I knew I wanted to wear this dress.
On tolast day of this experiment, I reckon I finally got it right.
Toonly problem was that it was a size 14 and I am a 22/I decided to try it on anyway in tohope of loads of stretch.
Other than being pretty short, it fit like a glove! It has a plunging beaded back and long sleeves. Make sure you scratch a comment about it below. Toreactions to this outfit were pretty night and day as compared to tofeedback I had received on previous occasions. For instance, I ignored her, i was really feeling this look. Anyway, she remarked, Oh look, I’m taking my grandma to tomall, when my buddy came to pick me up. At each store I went into, people went out of their way to tell me they liked my dress. Someone came up and starting yelling, Yes, when I was taking this photo outside tomall. Werk it honey! At tofinal stop we made, I got into a conversation with someone about how to be more body positive inspired by an initial comment about my skirt. You better represent for tobig girls.
Actually I realized that wearing something that amid to Golden Girls might sport really didn’t add anything to my routine in and of itself, albeit it took until tolast day. Rather than attempting to replicate their looks to a It’s also important to note that I couldn’t dress like Blanche without feeling like I was toprettiest one in toroom, it wasn’t until I infused my own styling that I felt truly confident and like amongst to gals. We can adapt their looks with our own signature to create something a whole lot better and a lot more inducing of body positivity, rather than emulating tocelebrities or characters we love.
